Tip 2: How many bikes will you usually be carrying with your bike rack? You might find a great deal on a 2-bike rack which would be perfect for you and a friend. But suppose you have a group of friends or a family and you want to carry 4 bikes on the rack? Likewise a great deal on a 4- or 6-bike (theyre HUGE!) rack isnt very "great" if you will never need to carry that many bikes. A bike rack thats too big can be cumbersome and nearly useless.
I would also suggest getting a receiver bike rack that fits both Class 2 and Class 3 hitches. You cannot get Class 3 hitches for all vehicles and if also makes it easier to move the hitch to other vehicles such as your friends car because its their turn to drive. Some other issues to keep in mind when using bike racks. First when you have 2 or more bikes on you bike rack they will probably rub together and scratch you bikes. There are accessories that will help you keep your bicycles away from each other but I have not used them "yet". And second some smaller mountain bikes will not fit on your bike rack.
youll have to research the brands and options just like an other major purchase. But as stated above finding out the number of bikes youll need to transport is a good place to start your bike rack search. A bike rack is perhaps one of the most important accessories of a bike. It is deemed as necessary in which it provides safe secure as well as durable storage whether at home garage or on the road. Different types of bike racks serve different purposes. There are racks that are used for indoors outdoors and travelling use. These different types of racks were created for different types of people.
