The Top Brands for Hitch Racks In the hitch bike rack world it seems to be dominated by three manufacturers: Thule Saris and Yakima. There are others but these three seem to be the quality innovators. Other companies that offer good choices for the price conscious shopper include: Swagman Softride Hollywood and Draftmaster. Speaking of innovation Yakima has a hitch rack that over comes a big problem that is the downside of a rear mounting system. Because these racks are at the back of the vehicle it can make it difficult to get into the rear of the vehicle with the rack in place.
The Yakima "Swing Daddy" has a feature that allows the rack to completely swing out of the way to give you complete access to the rear of your vehicle. The idea of a "right" or "best" bike rack is almost as hard to define as the "right" or "best" bicycle for you. But here are six tips to help you buy the one you need -- the one that offers the best combination of features quality and price for YOU is obviously the only "right" bicycle carrier you need to be concerned about! You could easily spend hundreds of dollars for a good new carrier or get by with only tens of dollars in expense to buy a good used one.
Also there are bike racks that attach to receiver hitches. These racks are very convenient because you can remove them easily after use but you must have a receiver hitch to use this type. Again that adds expense. And if you have a pickup they also make bike racks for the bed of the truck. The type that I have been using for the last couple of seasons is the type that attach to the spare tire of my vehicle. These types of Bike Racks only work if you have a spare tire on the back of your vehicle. Usually these vehicles are SUVs. And my vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler so this was the type of bike rack that I decided to purchase.
