This will narrow down the number of racks you have to choose from. Depending on the number of bikes you select your mounting options will change. For instance if you select three bikes the only types of racks available are hitch racks or rear racks. If you want a roof bike rack you can only select a load capacity of one bike. Play around with your options so you get a good idea of which styles can carry different quantities of bikes. When youre ready to start looking at specific racks rather than just the bike rack styles you can scroll down the page and see which Thule racks are available in the style of your choice.
If you have a hatch back but want a hitch mount bike rack because of the reason that you need access to the trunk then all you need to do is get a hitch receiver fitted. Before you rush out and buy a hitch receiver make sure you know how many inches it should be so that your rack fits it. Also be sure to get the hitch mount bike rack that is as swing away type or can be lowered. Some models are fixed so you wont be able to open your trunk anyway! 2. What Type of Bike Do You Have? 4 bike rack will carry 3 bikes comfortably but you often find the 4th will only just squeeze in if not at all.
I would also suggest getting a receiver bike rack that fits both Class 2 and Class 3 hitches. You cannot get Class 3 hitches for all vehicles and if also makes it easier to move the hitch to other vehicles such as your friends car because its their turn to drive. Some other issues to keep in mind when using bike racks. First when you have 2 or more bikes on you bike rack they will probably rub together and scratch you bikes. There are accessories that will help you keep your bicycles away from each other but I have not used them "yet". And second some smaller mountain bikes will not fit on your bike rack.
