Bike Rack / July 21, 2018 / Belda Beaudoin
Remember the purpose of the rack is to get your bicycles safely securely and conveniently to and from the rides. When you start bicycling usually you begin by your home. But when you get more serious about biking you might want to ride in different areas. That means you will probably need to get a bike rack for your vehicle to open up your bicycling opportunities. There are many types of bike racks and they all work well but it depends on what type of vehicle you have. There are racks that attach to the trunk or rear hatch of a car. There are racks that attach to the roof of your vehicle (these racks offer more versatility for other items such as skis or cargo but can be rather expensive).
Speaking of protection a bike that is transported from the rear will also not be damaged when the driver forgets the bike is on the roof and drives into a low ceiling garage. The best benefit of a hitch mount bike rack is the money it will save you on gas. A bike on a roof rack creates drag and cuts down on your gas mileage. A rear transported bike will not create the same kind of drag. If you have more than one bike there are versions of hitch bike racks that can accommodate up to 5 bicycles. Finally the ease of taking the bike on and off is very quick and you do not have to remove the tires-so you are ready to get cycling faster once at your destination.
Just recently I was shopping for a new roof bike rack and was surprised at how many options and styles were out there. I had to return two different racks before I found a style that met my needs and worked on my car. While shopping for my new roof bike rack I came across a few resources that I will use from now on to help with all my future rack needs. Choosing the best bicycle rack for your vehicle can be a timely and confusing process. It gets complicated trying to figure out which racks will work on your vehicle. Can you use a roof bike rack or do you need a trunk-mounted rack? Will you be able to carry multiple bikes at a time or are you limited to just one? Well youre in luck.
