Cycle Rack / July 21, 2018 / Colette Plaisance
Also drivers have been known to forget the bike is on top of their vehicle and they damage the bike when they drive into low ceiling areas like car ports or garages. Hitch Bike Rack The hitch rack is very convenient but you must have a hitch or at least a receiver for one. If you do this can be a good choice. Some versions are fixed and mount solidly against the back of the vehicle so the bike is secure. There are other versions available that allow the bike to swing away so the rear of the vehicle can be accessed. Many people like this type of a bike rack because the bicycle is protected from flying debris.
Bikes are often very close together and the use of foam pipe-insulator as a protective wrap is recommended. Bikes must be securely strapped to prevent bounce and access to the boot is often completely cut off. Sports car interior: You can get brackets to ensure your bike doesnt shift around when carrying it inside your vehicle and presuming you have enough room this is a cheaper and safer option (less chances of thieves getting their hands on the bikes). Roof mounted racks: A secure position which will carry at least 4 bikes and can take many more depending on your vehicle.
Finishes and Materials Most good bike racks today are available in a variety of finishes. Paint - Racks that are painted chip and rust. Stay clear. Colour coatings - High density colour powder coatings can produce an attractive colourful product that is scratch and corrosion resistant. Colour powder coatings applied directly to a steel frame will rust while colour powder coatings on a galvanised frame will chip very easily. If you want a colour finish ask for powder coatings on a zinc electroplated frame. Not recommended for areas within 2km from salt water. Galvanised steel - Virtually maintenance free and weather resistant.
