The biggest downside is that it does make it difficult to get inside the rear of the vehicle unless you have one if the cool new swing away styles. Trunk Mounted Bike Rack A rack mounted on the trunk can be a great choice for short trips. These are the least expensive of the bicycle rack types. The bike is protected from flying debris and that is always a plus. This is a great choice for those that do not want to transport their bike on the roof and do not have a hitch. The negatives for this type of a rack is that the bike is not very firmly secured and will bounce quite a bit.
They are relatively easy to install and take off for easy storage. This is the appeal for these types of bicycle racks. Most will have no problems carrying 2 bicycles. Stronger ones will be able to take 3 to 4 bikes if need be. These are great for cyclists that bike on the weekend with family and do not need to have the bike carrier mounted at all times. Another type of car bicycle rack with the ability to transport 2 to 3 bikes include the hitch mount rack style. These come in the form of mast and hanging types as well as the tray and platform style of rack. The ability to carry 2 bicycles is usually standard.
Bicycle Parking What to look for - What to avoid With todays bicycles costing a small fortune cyclists now look for bike racks that will not damage their bikes and allow locking of the wheel and frame with a U lock. Unfortunately many parking facilities provided for cyclists are poorly designed and remain unused. Cyclists are forced to lock their bikes to trees and posts or lean them against building fronts and windows. This not only creates an eyesore but causes damage to property and becomes a hazard to pedestrians. The key to providing a safe and effective bicycle parking program is to specify high quality attractive bike racks.
